Hard Times

First of all, I love the Pearl Theatre Company;  They can do no wrong.  Well, yes, I suppose that they can.  They can pick a too long play without much dramatic or spiritual value.  They can pick a play that was adapted from a novel which should have stayed a novel.  And that they did in this case.  Hard Times, based on Charles Dickens’s novel, is too long with little redeeming quality.  I hope they don’t decide to do War and Peace should some misguided soul write the script.

The sets are at their usual minimalist, which I don’t mind, and their acting is great as usual.  I recommend the company.  Just not this play.  The Pearl Theatre Company is now midtown at the City Center which is a great house for it.  I look forward to attending and reviewing many if not all of their future productions.
