Carnival Knowledge:

Love, Lust, And Other Human Oddities

A One woman show featuring Naomi Grossman.

The provocative poster for this show was misleading.  Yes, Naomi Grossman speaks of sex and relationships, but the raunchiness was overplayed in promotional material.  We both expected more.

Grossman is talented and funny, and gutsy in laying out her life for us to see.

But ultimately it is a story we have heard many times – Ms. Confused looking for Mr. Right.  Reminiscent of Carrie in Sex & The City except that Carrie always knew she loved Big.  But Carrie can’t have Big.  Carrie bounces around with Tom & Dick & Harry, then realizes  Big has to be The One.  Made me want to look up Sharon Rausch forty years later and see what she is up to.

Anyone can be Mr. or Ms. Right if the time and place are right.  As the song goes:  Every gambler knows that the secret to survivin’ is knowing when to throw away and knowin’ what to keep.  For every hand’s a winner and every hand’s a loser and the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.  Yadda, Yadda Yadda.

Ms. Grossman’s facial expressions were great and she moves like a trained dancer.  The sound and lighting were both good which is a definite plus.  With off-off Broadway you pays your money and you takes your chances.

Bottom line:  Assume that my life is more interesting than yours.  Don’t teach me, don’t dazzle me.  You can’t shock me.

Entertain me.
